How common are AI use cases?

Adoption is widening. Per Federal Reserve Board research on AI adoption, finance (63 percent) and professional services (62 percent) lead work-related generative AI use.

In government, the number of submitted AI use cases rose from 1,757 in 2024 to 3,611 in 2025, according to Global Government Forum's report on the OMB inventory.

Of those, 1,818 have been deployed or piloted.

AI use cases by industry

The same functions repeat across sectors. A Census Bureau working paper published by the NBER lists marketing automation, virtual agents and data and text analytics among common uses of AI.

AI use cases by industry differ mostly in the documents and rules involved. See our AI in healthcare examples, or browse all industries we work with.

AI use cases in operations and IT

AI use cases in operations often start with paperwork: reading forms, checking them against rules and routing the result. This is where intelligent document processing fits.

AI use cases in IT operations follow the same pattern: triage incoming requests, answer routine ones and pass the rest to a person with the context attached.

Other functions have their own patterns. AI use cases in tax centre on reading and sorting documents. AI use cases in travel centre on answering booking questions and handling changes.

Use cases for conversational AI

Use cases for conversational AI include support chat, appointment booking, lead qualification and order status questions.

A chatbot answers in text. A voice agent does the same by phone. Both should hand off to a person when a case gets complicated.

How we help you choose a use case

Our AI consulting engagements open with a costed list of your repetitive processes, so the first use case is chosen on numbers.

We rank them by payback, then build the first one on your current tools.

You approve each step. We do the work.

  • Map every repetitive process and its cost
  • Rank by payback, so the biggest win goes first
  • Build on the software you already use
  • Test end to end before launch

FAQ

Questions about AI use cases

  • A use case is a specific job AI does for a business, such as answering support tickets, reading invoices or following up with new leads. It names the task, the input and the result.
  • Customer service, lead response, document processing, proposals and phone answering are among the most common. They are frequent, repetitive and easy to measure.
  • Put a dollar figure on each repetitive task: hours times hourly cost. The task with the highest yearly cost is usually the best first use case.
  • Teams start with one process, connect the AI to existing tools such as the CRM, inbox and phone, test it, and keep a person in charge of approvals. Then they add the next process.
  • No. Government contractors, insurers and SaaS firms with 50,000+ users have used them, and so have a boutique law firm and a real estate agent. Size matters less than having a costly manual process.
